Abstract

Good sources of coherent electromagnetic radiation, its receivers and detectors exist for the radio-frequency, microwave and optical ranges of the spectrum. Many of these devices are based on semiconductor technology. Nowadays, the terahertz range (0.1 - 1 THz, submillimetre wavelengths) is practically the last unexploited terra incognita.
