Coherent optical phonons with very large quality factors: the E2-low mode in ZnO

Abstract

Pump-probe experiments reveal that the lifetime of the low-energy E2 phonon in ZnO is τ ~ 210 ps at 5K giving a quality factor Q = 1870. The decay rate is dominated by isotopic disorder.
