Abstract

In order to realize the higher recording density of LIMDOW-MO(Laser intensity modulation direct overwrite magneto-optical) disks, we have studied on adding the MSR(magnetic super resolution1)) function to it2). In LIMDOW-MSR disks, i) sufficient MSR read power margin and erase power margin, ii) a narrow erased fringe width, which may cause the erasure of marks on the adjacent track (cross erase), to narrow the track pitch and iii) the same or less writing energy compared with conventional LIMDOW disks to avoid the thermal damage on active layers are required. In this paper, we describe the suitable threshold temperature design for LIMDOW-MSR disks.
