Abstract

Quartz optical fibers, having remarkably low transmission loss, have been developed rapidly for optical communication lines. On the other hand, making use of the merits of quartz optical fibers, their applications in the field of instrumentation have also been developed actively, one of which is the quartz image fiber. It is the image guide of so-called multicore optical fiber type having more than ten thousands independent cores in a single fiber of large diameter and compared with the conventional image guide mainly for medical use which has the bundled structure of a large number of glass fibers, it has the following features.
