Abstract

Clinical tests of contrast sensitivity include micro-computer based devices and, more recently, a wall-chart version. While age norms and screening characteristics of some of these have been reported independently, no comparisons have been made of these tests using the same patients. In the present study, we have compared three such tests, including, two micro-computer based (Cadwell CTS 5000, for which no published norms exist, and the Optronix Series 200) as well as a wall-chart test (Vistech VCTS 6500). Our primary purpose was to compare age norms of all three tests as well as screening characteristics for several types of visual anomalies. We have found differences between the tests for both normal and abnormal patients, as described below.
