Abstract

We have already demonstrated all-optical operation of a nonlinear directional coupler(1) as proposed by Jensen(2) and more recently we have reported optically induced switching between two vertical modes of a SiNx loaded waveguide(3). In this presentation, we describe the experimentally observed nonlinear switching between two transverse modes of a strip loaded GaAs/GaAlAs multiple quantum well waveguide.
