Abstract

We propose a novel structure for an optical waveguiding layer to achieve efficient second harmonic generation (SHG) in the form of Cerenkov radiation, that is, the nonlinear optical susceptibility (χ(2)) inversion structure in the thickness direction (NIST). We also experimentally demonstrated, for the first time, an enhancement of 20 to 30 times for the efficiency of Cerenkov radiation SHG of a YAG laser due to NIST using 2-docosylamino-5-nitropyridine (DCANP) Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) film1, 2) as a waveguiding layer.
