Chaos and optical incoherence

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

One of the features of deterministic chaotic evolution is the decay of correlations, which for optical fields can be associated with a loss of coherence. In particular, chaotic evolution in time can reduce temporal coherence while preserving the spatial coherence properties of an optical field. We discuss the classical coherence properties of deterministically chaotic fields using results of computer experiments on various systems.
