Diffraction of light in a cascade linear system: general transfer function

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

We present a systematic procedure for calculating the general transfer function of a cascaded linear optical system working under the Fresnel regime. The validity of neglecting the quadratic phase factors is also discussed. For the case of inhomogeneous optical devices with Gaussian profiles, explicit expressions for the transfer functions are calculated through specific Gaussian integrals.
