OTF and MTF of a tessar photolens treated as a cascade linear system

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Using the general formulation for calculating the coherent transfer function (CTF) of a compound optical system working under linearity conditions in the Fresnel regime, we obtained the optical transfer function (OTF) and modulation transfer function (MTF) by performing an autocorrelation of the tessar photolens CTF. Such an analysis allows one to consider factors affecting the MTF such as the influence of the depth of field while focusing, etc. The results of this systematic procedure (which can be easily implemented on a computer) are compared with OTF functions obtained by other standard computational methods.
