Abstract

A combination of the structural analysis code PAFEC,1 Wavefront Analysis Package (WAP), and physical optics code GLAD2 has been used successfully at Los Alamos to design and engineer optical systems, such as grazing Incidence resonators and imaging systems. The vital importance of properly designed mounts for optical elements is illustrated with several examples of trade-off analyses in the performance of the optical system. In particular, the performance characteristics of lightweight honeycomb and triangular celled optics are described.
