Abstract
First, we describe a monolithic surface emitting 2-D laser array that produces coherent emission from more than 50% of its surface. Surfaces up to 5 × 0.06 mm have been achieved. Second, we show the importance of accurate interpretation of coherence in determining array performance and illustrate with calculations and data for our arrays.
