Physics of the magneto-optics recording and readout processes

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Diffraction theory of magneto-optical readout, including the effects of high-numerical aperture and polarization will be discussed and results of numerical computations presented. Emphasis will be on diffraction from sharp edges of the grooves and boundaries of the domains. Discussion of the thermomagnetic recording process will include the latest computer simulation results concerning the dynamics of magnetization reversal.
