Abstract
Laser diodes are efficient and compact sources of light with a high radiance. Although the radiance of a high-power diode bar with an aperture measuring 1 μm by 1 cm has a radiance (brightness) of 2.5 × 106 Wcn-2sr-1, the radiance of a 2-D stack consisting of the same laser diode bars is substantially less.1
