Reflection and transmission properties of light incident on the human eye

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

We have derived the reflection and transmission coefficients for two planes of light polarization incident on the human eye. The Fresnel equations for planar media have been modified into a form suitable for curved interfaces. This methodology is then utilized as a basis for the cornea and crystalline lens calculations. Light transmission and scattering properties along the visual axis are computed with it. By using this, a comparison with the Perkinje images is performed. From this we proceed to analyze the amount of transmitted light impinging on the retina. Finally, some comments concerning birefringence properties in the eye are included based on the coefficient derivations.
