Optical Bistability in Active Devices

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Optical bistability in both FP and DFB type LDs is an interesting subject because they have optical gain. Optical gain results in advantages such as low switching optical power, high ON-OFF ratio, and large fan-out. Bistable LDs can also operate faster than one nanosecond. Recent work in our laboratory, as well as by others in the field, will be reviewed.
