Abstract
VCSEL-based free-space global interconnections are gaining popularity since they can provide arbitrary interconnection patterns between input and output smart pixel arrays. This means that different types of free-space optical interconnect accelerators (FSOIAs) or reconfigurable routing and switching systems can be built around global interconnects. Bi-directional global interconnects exhibit a great functionality and can be used in many applications such as FFT, sorting and etc. The analysis of the feasibility and reliability of free-space global interconnects is an inevitable part of the system design since it allows the estimation of the influence of numerous physical and technical factors involved in the system realization.
