Abstract

In data recording, the uncorrected (raw) data reliability is determined by the recording system' signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and the size and distribution of media defects. This paper characterizes the noise sources present in magneto-optical (MO) recording systems. By identifying and quantifying these noise sources, system performance can be optimized.
