Abstract

In the first report on phase change single beam overwrite1), 2), it was determined that information rewriting is possible by only the laser power modulation between a crystallizing power level and an amorphizing power level. However, there was a large residual signal, which was mainly caused by insufficient crystallization speed. The erase ratio (decrease of an old signal) was approximately 12dB at that time.
