Abstract

Recent advances in image data compression technology made it possible to record motion pictures onto a CD-ROM This paper is to report our achievements in which motion pictures were recorded using MPEG to a CD-ROM having quadruple density to that of the conventional CD-ROM and then played back at a quadruple data transfer rate using an optical pick-up with a laser diode of wavelength 635 nm. That is, one-hour playback pictures were obtained with only a disk.
