Abstract

We present subpicosecond full-switching with a symmetric Mach-Zehnder all-optical switch. To our best knowledge, this is the fastest all-optical switching experiment with incoherent and thus realistic, efficient nonlinearities. Various factors which possibly limit the switching speed are investigated. We conclude that the present switching speed is determined by the duration of the control pulse and faster switching can be expected by reducing the control pulse duration.
