A Consideration of Chromatic Dispersion Compensating Methods for WDM Transmission Systems with Dispersion Managed Fiber

Abstract

Dispersion management methods for WDM transmission are numerically clarified taking group-velocity dispersion, optical fiber nonlinearities and ASE noise into account. The optimum method is that the normal dispersion fiber (D < -1ps/nm/km) is compensated at each span, which expected to allow for a more than 2,000-km transmission for 8 × 10 Gbit/s WDM signals with an 80-km amplifier span.
