Abstract

A large multinational corporation with manufacturing facilities in many countries must carefully plan to ensure that components are purchased at the lowest cost and that these components can be used interchangeably at any production facility. This paper discusses the procedures used by Xerox to achieve those goals for optical components, specifically lenses.
