Abstract

A large grating ruling engine designed and constructed in the spectroscopic laboratory at M.I.T. in Cambridge is presently located at Kitt Peak National Observatory, Tucson, Arizona. Because of continuing interest in large gratings, a modest ruling program utilizing the M.I.T. 'C' engine is being conducted in Tucson. Contained herein is a description of the engine, its control and techniques in its operation.
