Abstract
In Elastic Emission Machining (EEM), ultra fine powder particles having diameters of much smaller than 1.0 micron are employed. They are transported to the work surface by utilizing the flow of fluid. When they contact with the work surface, atomic removals take place through the atomic interactions between these two surfaces. Mechanism of EEM is similar to the chemical etching, in other words, chemical activities of the solid surfaces are employed in EEM instead of etchant in chemical etching. So that not only in geometrical sense but also in crystallographical one, excellent properties can be expected. Finished surfaces are examined by some methods for example, photoluminescence method or scanning tunneling microscope. Obtained results firmly show the superiorities of the surfaces after EEM.
