What Optics can do for the Digital Optical Computer

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

The hope is that the digital optical computer (DOC) will supplement the capabilities of the established electronic computer. To achieve this goal the DOC has to catch up technologically with the electronic computer in order to be compatible. Will it be possible for the DOC to catch up inspite of a delay by more than 30 years? A growing number of researchers apparently believes so.
