Abstract

We have developed an atmospheric lidar using a high-energy 1.57 micron optical parametric oscillator (OPO) source, and measured the temporal variation of the aerosol profile in the atmosphere out to a distance of about 5 km under various weather conditions. The lidar signal was detected using both an InGaAs APD and an InGaAs PIN photodiode to compare their performance.
