High-Contrast Modulation of Asymmetric Fabry-Perot Modulators at 20 GHz

Abstract

Asymmetric Fabry-Perot modulators (AFPMs) could serve as the optoelectronic link in smart-pixel processor or interconnection systems. We have fabricated AFPMs with the potential of operating at speeds of 30-40 GHz. Here we demonstrate large-signal (high-contrast, low-insertion-loss) modulation of these devices at 20 GHz.
