Fiber optic damage assessment system

Abstract

Researchers are investigating a ship-wide fiber optic sensor network based on fiber Bragg gratings to detect and control damage. Hundreds of sensors will be interrogated simultaneously to detect fire, flooding, and door/hatch closure on ships.
