Can Analog Mobile Fronthaul Achieve Higher Spectral Efficiency than its Digital Rival at the Same SNR Target?

Abstract

Analog mobile fronthaul is commonly believed to have higher spectral efficiency than its digital rival. We propose an SNR-related metric universally applied to analog and digital fronthaul, and find the analog advantage reduces or even vanishes at the same SNR target.
