Abstract
In the first part, we show (physical optic method and ray trace obtained with the SHADOW program) that a plane grating used in divergent light and working at minus one magnification suffers only from comas aberrations; use of a nonuniform grooves distribution suppresses the astigmatic coma term and reduces greatly the second coma term. Line spread function and practical band pass are also given for monochromator working in double dispersion.
