Abstract

A stable CW modelocked Neodymium glass laser operating at 1.053 µm has many applications; for example laser fusion and ranging. So far, CW modelocking in this wavelength region has been achieved with a Nd:YAG crystal, yielding 100 picosecond pulses. We have obtained 33 picosecond pulses from a Neodymium phosphate glass laser. Shorter pulses (even subpicosecond) are expected because of the larger spectral bandwidth of the phosphate glass.
