Abstract

Up to now, very short (a few picoseconds) pulses from neodymium:glass laser can only be generated by Q-switching at repetition rates of a few hertz. Here, we report the CW operation of an actively modelocked Nd: phosphate glass laser which can generate 7 ps pulses. These pulses are about 14 times shorter than those from a CW modelocked Nd:YAG laser and 10 times shorter than those previously obtained by our group [1].
