Abstract

Recent studies of photoisomerization in liquid solution have revealed significant modification of isomerization rates by frictional and dielectric solute-solvent interactions. Reported here are initial studies of the isomerization dynamics of 4,4’-dihydroxystilbene and 4,4’-dimethoxystilbene in the normal alcohols. Comparisons are drawn between this work and previous studies of the unsubstituted stilbene [1].
