Abstract
Time-resolved four-wave mixing allows to study the loss of coherence of optically excited states in molecules and solids. We have applied the transient grating technique with femtosecond time resolution to GaAs/AlGaAs Double Quantum Wells to show that the decay of the macroscopic polarization due to dephasing yields information about the nature and interaction of the excited states.
