Abstract
We calculate scintillation index at the axis of a vortex beam for weak and strong turbulence. Calculations are based on the asymptotic expansions of the Feynman path integral representation of the fourth moment of the field. Axial scintillation appeared to be strong even under weak turbulence conditions with scintillation index approaching unity.
