Exceptions

Although concurrent submission and duplicate publication should be generally avoided, there are certain circumstances under which they may be permitted. These include

• Pre-print servers (e.g. see the Optica Publishing Group policy regarding arXiv submission).
• Author or institutional repositories.
• Co-publication of an article in multiple journals (this is typically approved by the editors of each journal in advance and often applies to content types such as guidelines or position statements).
• Meeting abstracts or posters (e.g. see the Optica Publishing Group policy on conference papers).

However, you should carefully check a journal’s author instructions prior to submission.
