Abstract
There are many aspects of lasers which require that the optical designer deal with situations that were never encountered before in prelaser days. In many cases these laser features, such as a very narrow spectral bandwidth, are opportunities for designers to propose systems that would be totally impractical with conventional light sources. , In other cases, such as high power levels, they are a challenge to the designer to find system designs which will effectively address this potential problem.
