Formation mechanisms of bumps and their avoidance during laser milling of metals

Abstract

Studies of the effects responsible for surface degradation in laser milling of metals reveal a multistage formation mechanism. Different types of LSFL and the Marangoni instability emerge as possible main causes of degradation. An adapted processing strategy reduces the process times significantly.
