Abstract
Stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) in different mediums is a widely accepted method for the frequency conversion of the radiation generated in laser systems with different types of pump from the flash-lamps to laser diodes. A special place in this direction is occupied by solid-state mediums that allow the laser generation and nonlinear frequency conversion (so called self-frequency conversion) to be simultaneously achieved in one crystal. One of the most efficient medium for Raman self-conversion is Nd3+:KGd(WO4)2 (Nd:KGW) crystal. Raman self-frequency conversion in Nd:KGW crystal was realized at flashlamp pump more than ten years ago. On the other hand, laser oscillation in Nd:KGW crystal at diode pump has been also already shown in the continuous-wave, Q-switched and mode-locked operation modes. An advantage of other, crystal with Raman frequency self-conversion -Yb: KY(WO4)2 (Yb:KYW) is broad spectral bandwidth of amplification. As a result generation of a tunable radiation at the laser and Raman shifted frequencies is possible in Yb:KYW-laser. In this report the operations of all solid-state compact diode pumped Raman lasers with self-conversion on Nd:KGW and Yb:KYW crystals are described.
