Abstract
The development of powerful sources of coherent IR radiation is now an actual problem of laser physics. The free-electron laser (FEL) is considered a promising IR generator. The spectrum of FEL's coherent emission is not restricted by any discrete energy structure of atoms or molecules. An essential advantage of FELs is the ability of tuning in a wide frequency range.
