Abstract

Nonlinear optical planar resonators of a fabry-Perot type have been attracting much attention now, because of their numerous applications in optical information processing. Recent advances in understanding of nonlinear dynamic processes have been added a wealth of new properties both of the opened dissipative systems and of exactly integrable hamiltonic systems. The nonlinear relations between the field amplitude of the transmitted wave and the optical properties of the resonant medium give rise to bistability phenomena and self-pulsation under quasi-steady-state conditions. Under certain conditions, the nonlinear dynamics of the such systems may exhibit optical chaos.
