Abstract
Single-crystal samples of n-type Cd0.95Mn0.05Se, grown a modified Bridgman method1, have been used as electrodes in photoelectrochemical cells (PEC’s) employing aqueous diselenide electrolyte. After etching with HCl/HNO3 (1:1 v/v), the samples exhibit photoluminescence (PL) when excited with ultraband gap excitation (Eg~1.75 eV2); the maximum of the PL band, ~690 nm, is near the band gap energy and blue shifts to ~680 nm at 77 K. In some samples, subband gap PL is also observed (uncorrected λmax~890 nm.) The radiative efficiency, ϕr, of the edge emission can be as large as ~10-4 at 295 K and ~10-2 at 77 K.
