From klystrons to lasers: the Stanford connection

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

The development of coherent sources of radiation has taken place in distinct steps that have involved conceptual breakthroughs. We explore the evolution of coherent sources through the past 50 years, including radio, TV, klystrons (microwaves), the maser and finally the laser.
