Optoelectronic packaging for telecommunications

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

It has been estimated that optoelectronic packaging currently represents between 65 to 75% of the cost of fiber optic components. There have been rapid improvements in the area of semiconductor device performance, but the packaging of the devices remains a major bottleneck. This paper examines key packaging efforts that are defining future telecommunications packaging.
