Shock tube spectroscopy of astrophysical molecules using an optical multichannel analyzer

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

As part of a continuing laboratory study of astrophysical spectra, bands of SiH and SiN, in the wavelength region 390–450 nm have been shock-excited in emission in silane-nitrogen mixtures under known thermodynamic conditions. Spectra from individual shocks have been recorded using an optical multichannel analyser. They have been interpreted by comparison with realistic numerical line-by-line synthetic spectra.
