Abstract
Today's buyer of 5-1/4 inch Write-Once optical storage products is presented with greater choice and variety of product than ever before. The technology now offers capacities from 200 megabytes to 1.2 gigabytes, with various access times and data transfer rates. Additional issues such as external or internal mount, form factor conformance, capability of software/firmware supplied with the unit, and operating system support make the choice difficult at best. In all cases, low cost-per-megabyte figures, high capacity, and removable media are the attributes that make optical drives ideal for data intensive applications.
