Abstract
An optical disk memory with a larger capacity and a higher data transfer rate than those of available optical disk drives is required for multimedia applications. The authors have developed a 600 MB capacity 90 mm phase change optical disk memory1) to achieve these two demands using a 690 nm laser diode, a 0.6 numerical aperture objective lens, a 0.6 mm thin substrate double–sided disk, and a fast auto laser power control technique2).
