Abstract

In the highly deregulated telecommunications market of New Zealand, the two main operators have extensive optical fibre trunk networks, and broadband access networks currently being trialed and installed. An innovative connectorless fibre management scheme has been developed by local companies for more efficient fibre management at network headend points. In addition there are many optical fibre Local Area Networks (LANs) installed, from Scott Base in Antarctica, to the largest combined LAN and PLC system in the Southern Hemisphere at a North Island dairy company.
