Abstract

This mirror is the primary for the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope located at elevation 4200 meters on Mauna Kea, Hawaii. The optical finishing was done under a firm price contract from the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope Corporation to the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory in Victoria, B.C. The Observatory is a section of the National Research Council of Canada. The work took a total of three years, of which twenty months were spent on the grinding and figuring of the front surface.
